Bodynamics Introduction & Supervision: A Webinar Series
Do you have clients who seem stuck in old, habitual patterns of experiencing the world—so that even when they have new insights, very little seems to change? Do you ever feel like you’ve hit a wall, where the methods you typically use seem insufficient for a particular client or particular issue? Would you like to explore a new approach that addresses these types of challenges head-on?
Bodynamics is a highly precise, evidence-based methodology for understanding exactly where individuals are stuck—cognitively, emotionally, and physically—and helping them to shift longstanding patterns that no longer serve them. It works somatically (through the body) to address issues that are often resistant to purely cognitive ways of working.
Based on 40 years of research, Bodynamics integrates current research in the psychomotor development of children with cognitive and depth psychology, brain science, and attachment theory. The core insight of Bodynamics is that as children develop voluntary control of muscles, they gain corresponding psychological abilities—for example, pulling in what they want or pushing away what they don’t. When impulses such as reaching out, exploring the world with curiosity, or expressing opinions are supported, we learn we can be fully ourselves and connected to others at the same time. When our impulses are prohibited or not supported, our muscles either become tight, holding back expression, or undeveloped and flaccid, so we don’t feel the impulse. These unintentional failures of support create “developmental disruptions” and are a normal outcome of parenting. Bodynamics provides a way to free held-back abilities and foster those that were never developed. When working on an issue, you learn to use the right muscle at the right time, in the context of a supportive relationship. This offers a powerful and direct means for helping clients step into a more resourced way of being and responding.
In this introductory webinar series, you’ll learn key Bodynamic distinctions and how they apply to your specific clients, including:
The 7 stages of childhood development and the core abilities that are learned at each stage
How resources or disruptions in each of these stages may show up in adults
Basic Bodynamic concepts to enhance your understanding of your clients, along with some simple practices to deepen developmental capacities that may be underdeveloped
A tangible sense of the impact of attunement in relationships with clients, and specific ways that mis-attunements are expressed and experienced
In the first meeting, we’ll provide a broad introduction to Bodynamics concepts, including an overview of all seven developmental stages. In subsequent sessions, you will have an opportunity to bring client case studies to the trainers and get supervision for a deeper, somatic understanding of what may be holding them back and what specific practices may provide useful support. Each of these supervision sessions will focus on a different Bodynamic stage.
All sessions take place 7–8:30pm Eastern Time. Dates are as follows:
